Resource Efficiency and Waste Management Working Group

EIC Chair - Gary Armstrong, Jacobs

The EIC’s Resource Efficiency and Waste Management Working Group represents over 60 leading companies concerned with waste management and resource efficiency. Members of the Group range from waste management companies, to environmental consultancies advising on resource efficiency or companies that are taking steps to improve their resource efficiency.

This group meets 4 times a year with guest speakers. The Group works to improve the business potential for its members by influencing UK Government policy related to Resource Efficiency and Waste Management. DEFRA has identified that the UK economy could make savings of up to £23 billion per annum through resource efficiency. Businesses that implement new and innovative solutions to reduce waste have opportunities to make significant cost savings. Despite this business opportunity, it remains the case that relatively few companies take up this opportunity to improve their competitive position. Group Members have welcomed the Government’s ambitions on resource efficiency, but EIC strongly believes more co-ordinated action needs to happen.

Issues currently being discussed

  • Need for statutory resource efficiency indicators
  • Landfill policy (future of landfill tax and landfill bans)
  • Definition of waste
