Scottish Group (next meeting 24 February 2009 at 11am)

·         Resolving problems with remediation licensing and the definition of waste

·         Sustainable construction, including brownfield development, waste minimisation and energy efficiency

 

Waste Resources Management (next meeting on 11 May 2010 at 1.30pm)

Group Chair: Jonathan Davies, Enviros (T: 01743 284 800, E: jonathan.davies@enviros.com)

Speaker at next meeting: Roy Hathaway, Head of Waste Regulation and Business Waste at Defra, will attend to discuss the work Defra are doing into restricting landfilling of certain materials.

 

The Group is working to secure complementary policies across the material life cycle with the overall aim of waste prevention:

·         Minimising Virgin Material Use – through, for example, sustainable procurement and promoting resource efficiency

·         Recovery and Treatment

·         Disposal – both through regulation (specific material bans on landfill) and fiscal measures (landfill tax)

 

Carbon and Environmental Management (next meeting on 10 March 2010 at 11.00am)

·         Legislative and regulatory drivers for carbon management, including the Carbon Reduction Commitment and policies for SMEs

·         Corporate environmental reporting

Environmental Laboratories Group (next meeting on 3 March 2010 at 2.30pm)

·         Proposals that testing to MCERTS is a requirement of planning consent

·         Further promotion of MCERTS for soils

·         Extension of MCERTS for water testing to all environmental waters

·         Consistency of UKAS accreditation

 

Sustainable Buildings & Energy Efficiency Group (next meeting on 17 February 2010 at 2.30pm)

Speaker at next meeting: A representative from the Department for Communities and Local Government will be invited to the next meeting to discuss Zero Carbon Non-Domestic Buildings.

 

·         Zero carbon homes and non-domestic buildings

·         Energy efficiency in existing buildings

·         Public Sector Building Projects

·         Financial incentives to facilitate the uptake of energy efficiency technologies in buildings, including improving the Enhanced Capital Allowances scheme

 

Transport Pollution Control Group (next meeting on 23 March 2010 at 11am)

Group Chair: Mike Galey, Eminox (T: 01427 810088, mike.galey@eminox.com)

Speaker at next meeting: Rupert Furness, Head of the Environment Policy and Delivery Division at the Department for Transport, will attend to discuss key issues for the Group, including proposals for a National Framework of Low Emission Zones.

 

·         Government support for Low Emission Zones and other measures for encouraging retrofitting pollution control technologies to vehicles

·         Proposals for a National Framework of Low Emission Zones

·         Implementation of the London Best Practice Guidance for Construction and other emission reduction measures for non-road vehicles

·         Funding for retrofit

·         The role of the transport pollution control sector in meeting EU air quality targets

 

Renewable Transport Fuels Group (next meeting to be announced for early 2010)
